Life:
Born in Barcelona in 1833.
He studied together with its brother Venanci in the School of Llotja in Barcelona as disciple of the famous Catalonian sculptor Damiá Campeny.
He initiates its artistic career together with his brother Venanci sculpting small nativity scene figures of baroque style in a shop of the street Tapinería of Barcelona.
In 1872 he went with its brother Venanci to Manchester where they carried out the portraits of Lord Stanley and his wife.
In 1881, he is named professor of the School of Llotja in which before he had been student.
As his brother Venanci, he carries out a very realistic sculpture and puts a great deal of care in the detail. A good part of its work is carried out in contribution with his brother, for which at times, it is difficult to attribute a work to one or another.
The work of Agapit has been considered traditionally complementary of that of his brother Venanci that is more spectacular, nevertheless, it is appreciated in the work of Agapit a formal perfection that the most brilliant work of Venanci not reaches.
So much Venanci as Agapit Vallmitjana should be considered academic sculptors in a  realistic style and therefore previous to modernism (Catalan Art Nouveau), because the majority of its work is carried out before of this style emersion, but the fact that both where teachers of famous modernist sculptors as Llimona, Gargallo and other, gives them a special importance as precursors.
Barbany died in Barcelona in the year 1905.
